
On 31 March - 01 April 2025 a joint meeting of the partners of the ERA Talent project of the EURAXESS network is taking place. 35 countries participate in the project through the national
coordinator organisations. The EU-REA project officer, the policy officer from the European
Commission responsible for the network, and the expert from the European Commission responsible for the European and national portals are also present online.
The event was opened by Prof. Ph. Prof. Sonia Mileva-Bozhanova, Deputy Rector Career Development, Alumni, Relations with Employers and Business, with an emotional speech as she was personally involved with EURAXESS in her role as a mentor of the unique, global mentoring programme created by the network team at SU. Prof. Dr. Mariana Atanasova, Associate Dean Doctoral and Academic Staff, also gave a welcome , highlighting the role of the network as an integrated part of the UNITE PMC.
EURAXESS is a formal EC network, growing over the years not only in number of countries
, now 43, over 650 scientific organisations in Europe, over 1600 contact persons in them and 9 liaison officers all continents. The ministries of the Member States appoint the national coordinators. The network has also grown in terms of activities, from assisting scientists in mobility
at the beginning, it now also includes:
- assisting the career development of scientists
- assisting scientific organisations to attract and implement the principles of the European Charter for Scientists
- assisting national authorities and the EC in research policy-making
- engaging with industry to expand research career opportunities outside academia
- supporting the integration of refugee scientists
-- supporting the development of scientific entrepreneurship.
In renewing the structure of the network by creating hubs per strand, the team has taken the lead of one of the five established hubs, the international EURAXESS Science 4 Refugees hub, and is leading the integration processes of refugee scientists at European level as well as in Bulgaria. He has built a unique, global mentoring programme, the EURAXESS Mentoring Programme https://mentoring.euraxess.bg/ , which has been running continuously for 4 years and has involved over 1300 scientists from all over the world, with over 270 successfully formed mentoring pairs. Regular visits to the site exceed 14,000, with no such visits from just 4 countries in the world - Greenland, Mauritania, Chad and Tibet.
