Mihreteab, a Tigrayan scholar from Ethiopia, was deeply involved in teaching and researching African legal systems and reforms, contributing to critical discussions affecting millions. However, his focus on human rights put him at great risk due to the Ethiopian government’s crackdown on ethnic minorities, particularly Tigrayans. To escape persecution, Mihreteab worked with Scholars at Risk (SAR), an organization that helps threatened academics find safety and continue their work. SAR emphasizes the importance of supporting scholars like Mihreteab to protect academic freedom and encourages contributions to advance research and teaching globally.
