About
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolina Tsvetkova has been involved in teaching and teacher training, material design, course development, evaluation of learning materials, and intercultural communication training. She has experience in coordinating teacher training and MA programmes as well as in EU-funded projects as a team member and team leader. She is currently Head of the European Studies Department at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
She has also coordinated teams of authors and researchers in developing and delivering online courses as part of teaching at Sofia University and of working under EU-funded projects.
Her research interests include intercultural communication and intercultural learning, e-learning, European dimension of education, etc. She has published a number of papers, book chapters and a monograph in these areas as well as coursebooks for learning English.

The aim of the webinar is for participants to
- Engage in reflecting on their own experiences of working or living in another culture
- Explore theintercultural encounters they have been part of
- Discuss strategies useful in overcoming cultural barriers in daily life and at their workplace.
Preparation:
1. Please think of an intercultural encounter you have had which you consider significant to your understanding of intercultural communication. Answer the following questions:
- When did it happen?
- Where did it happen?
- How was involved?
- What actually happened?
- How did you feel? Why did you feel like that?
2. When people gather together, they often tell each other jokes. Tell us a joke that would typically make your friends laugh. Why does it make them laugh?
